This itinerary combines the beauty of the Croatian coastline with the culture and history of Croatia’s most famous city. Enjoy the surrounding islands of Lokrum, Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan from the unique vantage point of your kayak, then paddle onwards to the unspoiled beauty of Zaton Bay where peace and quiet contrasts with the lively bustle of Dubrovnik City. Daily routes are a manageable two to three hours of easy paddling with no previous sea-kayaking experience necessary.
Simple accommodation is provided by local families with the option, in some cases, to opt for hotel rooms at an additional charge.
There are three locations available to guests in the area:
One hour from Dubrovnik harbour by ferry, Lopud has a small town by the same name with three hotels, several restaurants and cafes, two sandy beaches and great sunsets. The island is car-free and has easy access to the Old Town by ferry or water taxi.
Only half an hour from Dubrovnik harbour or 15 minutes from the mainland, Kolocep has numerous bays to explore, two quiet villages, one hotel and a few restaurants and cafes. Relax on the sandy beach or take one of the many paths to explore the island. Accommodation is in a quiet house overlooking the village. Please note that there are 100 steps to access this property.
Located just a 15 minute drive from the Old Town and its night life, Zaton Bay offers the perfect opportunity to escape the tourist traps and enjoy local village life. Accommodation is by the sea in traditional houses, many with beautiful gardens. The bay has five beaches and numerous hiking routes.
Transfer from Dubrovnik Airport to your appointed accommodation. In the evening, after settling in, join other members of the group over dinner in one of the local restaurants followed by a walk to familiarise yourself with the area.
Start the morning in the bay with instruction on sea kayaking in preparation for the afternoon's trip along the varied coastline with its many beaches and places of interest. The kayaks are made from sturdy polyethylene allowing for the transportation of personal effects and snorkelling gear for those wishing to explore under the sea. Family friendly, sit-on-top kayaks are also available with a third seat for young children.
Over the next few days, you will kayak around numerous islands and bays with access to hidden places the typical tourist never gets to see. Croatia's spectacular coastline is dotted with beaches and caves only accessible by sea. The atmosphere is relaxed and the guides happy to accommodate the wishes of the group, safety permitting. Guides will organise walks and bike rides to break up the day and allow time to experience every aspect of this incredible region with its numerous treasures such as the monastery on Lokrum Island. There are many fascinating villages to see, local people to meet and opportunities to sample the simple yet excellent cuisine this region has to offer.
A free day to spend at leisure. Relax by the sea or head into the
historic city
of Dubrovnik with its beautiful streets and impressive city walls.
Optionally, take a rafting
or canoe trip down the crystal clear Trebia or Neretva Rivers, near
Mostar in Bosnia.
Please note that this activity is not included in the price of your itinerary and can be booked on site for an additional fee of approximately £40 per person.
Transfer to the airport for the homeward flight.
