Krka River Adventure

Adventure Holidays - Rafting

Skradin is a unique town hidden in the Krka River estuary, 80 kilometers from Split airport, on the very edge of the national park. The small picturesque town, rich in history, has a couple of family-run hotels, restaurants, pubs, wineries, a beach and marina.

This activity program has a well balanced mixture of nature and culture. Your days
will be filled with hiking up waterfalls and across narrow streams, touring lakes in a canoe, kayaking around islands and along the rapids of exotic river canyons. You will also raft through jungle-like forest and explore the many hidden caves. Afternoons and evenings will be spent enjoying the ambience of Zadar and Sibenik, the Diocletian Palace in Split and in the beautiful town of Trogir – a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Kayaking, rafting, bicycling and sea kayaking are pleasant ways to travel through these pristine and remote areas. They are suitable for all ages and even absolute beginners. The sea, lakes and rivers are safe and friendly – water temperatures are pleasant in summer and they are not dangerous or physically demanding.

Itinerary

Day 1 Saturday:

Arrival in Skradin, (nearest airports are Zadar and Split), and check in the Skradinski Buk hotel. Get-together dinner and presentation of the program will be followed by an evening walk around the town and its pubs - a chance to discover your favorite Croatian wine, beer or ice cream.

Day 2 Sunday:

Kayak trip on the Krka River and Prokljan Lake towards Zaton. There will be time to enjoy the beach and practice your kayaking skills to prepare for the more challenging rivers that you will later explore. The water here is brackish - mixed fresh and saltwater, which is the reason for the abundant wild-life under the surface.

Day 3 Monday:

A trip to the romantic island of Vrgada for sea kayaking, snorkeling and swimming. This island marks the boundary of the Kornati Islands - a national park free from cars or hotels. You will explore the island's many coves and some of the most beautiful beach in the area. In the evening you shall visit Sibenik, an ancient town with a lively Mediterranean night life.

Day 4 Tuesday:

A short boat ride will take you up the river to the magnificent 44m high Skradinski Buk waterfalls. You will continue by motor boat to the island Visovac to visit the Franciscan monastery. A longer walk will take place on Roski waterfall around its numerous mills, streams and cascades after which there will be time for lunch and a swim. Optionally one can continue by boat to visit St. Archangel monastery along the upper canyon of the river.

Day 5 Wednesday:

Zrmanja and Krupa river canoe safari. A full day trip including canoeing down easy rapids and along magnificent canyons as well as a chance to swim under waterfalls. After the river trip and a picnic you will walk through the old town of Zadar, enjoy a drink on a promenade while listening to the sounds of the famous sea organ.

Please note, If the water levels are high, (usually in spring and autumn), the canoes will be substituted for rafts.

Day 6 Thursday:

Head south to the Cetina River for a rafting trip that will thrill you with clear water, jungle-like forests, caves and waterfalls rather then big rapids. The river is grade 3 - easy enough for families and absolute beginners. The trip ends at Radman Mills, a national restaurant in a beautiful setting of old mills, once powered by the waters of the Cetina River. After lunch, continue to Split and walk along its popular palm tree promenade and visit the Roman emperor Diocletian's palace, built in the 4th century. Time permitting; you will also visit Trogir, another UNESCO World Heritage site - an old town with fairy-tale streets and stone houses of incredible architecture, works of art and warm ambience.

Day 7 Friday:

A day to relax on a beach or take an optional excursion - biking around the park, a boat trip to the Kornati Islands National Park, or shop for souvenirs in nearby Sibenik before the farewell dinner.

Optional excursion not included in price.
